As many of you know, we were unable to invite wind instruments to the in-person workshops this year. The risk of spreading COVID remains high. Instead we bring you virtual classes to keep you engaged while we continue to wait out the virus.

Brazilian Swing: from Colonial Brazil to Modern!

This class will feature Brazilian repertory from the 19th century to the modern period, showcasing the infectious melodies, lovely and sometimes strange harmonies, along with exciting rhythms based on African and Portuguese influence. We will play solo melodies and ensemble repertory featuring Lundu dance from the 19th century, choros, and popular tunes.

Revisit the Braun sonatas! Whether you attended part one or not, come play these beautiful sonatas for bass instruments and experiment with different ornamentations. If you didn’t attend part 1, recordings can be sent for you to practice with. You’ll have the opportunity to play/perform for the class, if you so choose.

Open to bassoons and basses of all kinds.

Handel Oboe Sonata in F Major, HWV363a: I’ve chosen this piece, what now?

Through the lens of this lovely Handel Sonata we’ll explore common themes in learning and performing Baroque repertoire: a brush-up in phrasing, articulation, ornamentation, editions, and more.
Open to modern and baroque players alike (oboes, flutes, recorders, violins. . .)

 

We will be sending a reminder Zoom link, as well as relevant materials, two days before each of your registered sessions through Mailchimp. Please note that some emails may have difficulty receiving messages from Mailchimp; if this is the case for you, or if you register within two days of your class, please email workshops@sfems.org. Otherwise, materials will also be provided at the start of each class.

The SFEMS moderator will open each class 15 minutes prior to each session. Whenever you need assistance, email administrator Stacey Helley at workshops@sfems.org.

You may select classes directly for purchase from our ticketing page. Once you complete your order, your emailed receipt will contain the Zoom link for your calendar and a link to materials if available.

Classes are typically 60-75 minutes, unless otherwise noted, on Zoom (all times Pacific Time):

In May 2020, SFEMS began to offer a range of virtual lectures, seminars and masterclasses to adapt our summer workshops to the global health crisis. While we cannot replace the magic and thrill of in-person music-making, we remain committed towards providing a superb music education while deepening the community that makes the SFEMS summer workshops unique.

Virtual classes are $25 each.

You can purchase more classes at any time!

When you make your class purchase, you will need to designate a login email address and password. If you have paid for a membership, bought tickets or registered for a workshop with SFEMS online before, please use the same login information.

Refunds and Exchanges: You can receive a refund or exchange for a class session if you notify us no less than 24 hours prior to the session. We will also offer refunds or exchanges if there were technical issues logging in or during the Zoom call. However, we currently are unable to offer refunds or exchanges for sessions missed for any other reasons.
