The hundreds of solos Bach wrote for the oboe in his sacred works indicate that it was one of his favorite instruments. Scholars have long supposed that many chamber works for oboe were among the hundreds of lost works by Bach, and House of Time brings this speculation vividly to life. Virtuosic sonatas and trios for violin and oboe form a compelling realization of an imaginary night of chamber music at the Bach household.

PROGRAM:

Trio Sonata in F Major, after BWV 525
Violin Sonata in E minor, BWV 1023
Oboe Sonata in G minor, BWV 1030b
Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue, BWV 903
Trio Sonata in G Major, BWV 1039

House of Time

HOUSE OF TIME is an exciting new ensemble specializing in music of the Baroque era played on period instruments.  Its members include faculty and graduates of the Juilliard School as well as prize winners of major international competitions. House of Time began as a group of close friends that wanted the opportunity to perform music that they love for themselves and for a range of listeners.  In presenting our inaugural season we hope to entice life-long classical music lovers as well as new audiences.  Our programming combines masterpieces of the Baroque with works by lesser known masters and recent discoveries.  Using the instruments and techniques of the past to express the vivid passions in the music, House of Time seeks to make the past speak directly to our culture and provide relief from the fast pace of modern day life.
